Nike Air Trainer SC

This Nike Air Trainer SC is designed using very subtle colors. Basically, it is in black and white and shades of in-between. The greys are the shades of black. This sneaker will be available at Hangtime. The cost is around 12,000- 13,500 yen for one pair.
The toe box has premium leather that is perforated. The toe box has a striking covering of shiny, black leather. It has a strip of leather that runs down, vertical to the lengthwise of the shoe. There are two pairs of shoe lace thread-through holes. They are in orange. There are accents using leather in a darker shade of grey. These panels have machined stitches that provide a detailed pattern crossing over the dark grey accent. The stitches make the panel interesting. Both panels of dark grey leather have the elaborate machine stitching. I like the tongue which is made from a shiny, mesh-like material.

For this high cut shoe, there are two extra shoe lace holes right near the upper end of the tongue. It is a matter of user preference to thread the laces through these holes.

The entire shoe is perforated and this is a unique model. Usually, only certain panels are perforated while the other panels are made of different materials. I like the overall design.

Custom Nikes with Trees and Checkers

Stizo Custom Kicks has crafted a pair of Chinese-inspired shoes that stylish and well-designed. A gold/tan checker pattern is placed on the side of the shoe up to the top eyelets as a frame for the shoe’s tree design. The trees painted on the outside of both shoes run from the soles up to a deep burgundy pool that acts as a background for the laces.

While the overall design is exceptional, the execution of a fade from the top eyelet to the toe box is incredible. There are few custom artists who can turn a dark burgundy into a gray color in a matter of a few inches. The only problem I see with this shoe is that there are too many moving parts. Looking at the shoe as a whole, it is a beautiful mess with fantastic parts that don’t quite mesh.

The Virginia based streetwear store Commonweath and Amsterdam’s skateshop Ben G have teamed up with DC Shoes to each create their own version of the Gatsby model.

Commonweath decided to use a Maharam fabric, usually used in furniture. The black sneaker features a cream colored repeated pattern. The design is quite simple and somewhat drab. Ben G added some brightness and style in their version with the multi-colored rain pattern that is all over these kicks. Hot pink, green and yellow streak down these black uppers. There is also their cute yet odd dog logo seen inside.

Info and pictures via SF. No word on release date or price, but these are expected to be very limited.

Flesh Imp x Adidas Superstar

Flesh Imp x Adidas Superstar

Flesh Imp (a label out of Singapore) celebrated its 7th Anniversary in fashion, art, music and the urban lifestyle. To mark their anniversary and a new beginning, they have released a special Adidas collaboration Superstar “七” (7).

The interesting design incorporates a sword and an M16 rifle, depicting the fusion of old meets new. Adidas with its history and significance to urban culture is the old, while Flesh Imp represents the new – the M16 and it’s new wave of urban influences, combining Asian and Western ideas. Though the use of weapons is a little odd (but supposedly symbolizing never-ending commitment), the shoe isn’t half bad.

The black and white colorway is simple, yet the details are many, include the textured white toe and writing on the stripes. Via Hypebeast

Vans Chukka LX

Vans Chukka LX

Another Vans Chukka has been released. This one has a different look compared to previous versions.

The Vans Chukka LX is a good looking casual shoe with some style. The woven knit black and grey uppers remind you of a winter sweater. The front of the shoe is black suede, which is contrasted by the stark white midsole and laces.

These shoes are available right now from local Vans retailers for $80. You can’t beat the price!

Nike Dunk Lo SB “Gibson Guitar Case”

This Nike shoe was designed out of the inspiration from the Gibson guitar case. The pink furry outline for the edge comes from the imitation of the case which uses furry material. It would be available at Nike SB.

This Dunk Lo SB has bright pink shoe laces and a thick pink furry lining around the edge of the sneaker. The tongue has its outline in pink. The inner sole has some pink accents too. At first glance, this looks like a woman’s shoe because of the use of pink materials. However, if the user is also wearing long pants, the edge of the pants would fall over the shoe laces and upper edge of the shoe and the pink colors would be obscured.  Moreover, a person can change the color of the pink shoe laces.  The brown leather is a smooth quality and would season well. It is a nice, standard shoe and would be worth the effort to change the shoe laces to give it a different look.

There are at least two different types / qualities of leather here. The panel at the back of the heel looks to be from a different quality of brown leather. The Nike swoosh is also made from a different color, using a beige color.

I like the idea of using the standard brown for the entire shoe. It will go down well with color coordinating for clothing.

Nike Air Force Ones to Honor a Rap Legend

The death of Underground King (UGK) co-founder Pimp C on December 4, 2007 was a shock to rap fans throughout the United States. Pimp C’s work with UGK and collaborations with other rappers helped influence rappers like Jay-Z and Kanye West. The King of Sneakers honored Pimp C’s legacy and memory recently with a pair of custom Nike Air Force Ones.  

A likeness of Pimp C in black and yellow is laid out on the right shoe. The designer used the UGK name in white and Pimp C in black set against a rich brown background on the left toe box. You can look at the picture below to see the birth and death date of Pimp C on the outside heel of the right shoe. All of the elements of a good memorial are placed on this shoe. Anyone who loves rap music and wants to honor an underrated member of the musical community can check out The King of Sneakers website.

Nike Cortez Leather Vintage

The Nike Cortez has undergone the vintage treatment. The stained laces and yellowed midsoles aim to give these sneakers an old school feel.

Three colorways are available right now at various Nike dealers and at LTD Online. Two of the colorways are black (or nearly black). One has a wine color Swoosh, while the other bears an orange Swoosh. The white shoes have a black Swoosh.

These are very simple kicks with nothing particularly special about them. If you are a Cortez fan, then I’d imagine you might want a pair. Outside of that, they are pretty drab.
