Colorful Puma Clyde
Colorful Puma Clyde - #1

A new pack of three very colorful Puma Clydes have been released. Though the Clyde is a simple shoe, these are very lively. Each shoe features buttery suede in a solid color accented by a contrasting shade on the sole. The color combinations are very nice, particularly the green and violet version pictured above.

The other two colorways are orange/blue and blue/red. Though these shades are unique, they aren’t too obnoxious. They are nice alternative to dark or white shoes from spring or summertime. These sneakers are available right now at Ubiq. Via Hypebeast.

Puma and No Mas Collaborate on Seattle-Themed First Rounds

pumafirstround_nomas.jpg

Puma and No Mas have collaborated on several shoes as written up by my fellow posters in the past few months. The newest result of the Puma/No Mas marriage is a pair of First Rounds with a Seattle theme. “The Lottery” theme from a past collaboration remains with these First Rounds including a reference to “The Lottery” and No Mas on the inside of the shoe’s tongue. Lottery balls with random numbers are punched all over the white leather to complete the collaboration.

The overriding Seattle theme is created with yellow/green colors that represent the Seattle SuperSonics. The yellow/green laces work well with the green Puma symbol and yellow outsole on these First Rounds. The SuperSonics may be splitting town soon but these shoes will give sneaker fans a stylish memory of the franchise’s history.

Anyone in the Seattle area that is interested in picking up these First Rounds should head to GOODS Seattle, 1112 Pike St the morning of April 30th. There will be a small number of Puma/No Mas Seattle-themed First Rounds available so get in line early.

Puma Unleashes First Round Skates

pumafirstround_1.jpg

Puma continues to dazzle and amaze its fans in 2008 with a duo of First Round Skates that will fly off shelves soon. These high-top skate shoes feature exaggerated padding on the heel for ankle support as well as a classic skateboarder look. The premium suede used throughout the shoe is soft to the touch and looks great on the board and on the streets. A puffy tongue prevent rubbing on the top part of the wearer’s foot and brings back elements of the sneaker world from the 1980s.

There are two colorways offered in this version of the Puma First Round Skate. I posted the black/red colorway first due to its sleek look and simplicity. The second colorway is blue and white which would be a fantastic consolation prize if the first shoe is not available. These skate shoes continue Puma’s efforts in 2008 to relive the brand’s past while adding new twists to classic looks.

Puma First Round EX 1987 x Santa Cruz
Puma First Round EX 1987 x Santa Cruz #1

If you are fan of kicks from the 1980’s, you’ll love this forthcoming PUMA release. These kicks have a distinctive ‘80’s look that should be extremely popular for those looking to master the throwback look.

The details on these shoes are extensive. With a color scheme of electric blue, dark red and black, there is little rhyme or reason to the design. It’s basically just a crazy conglomeration of colors, styles and textures. Even the shoe laces are wacky.

The exact release date for these shoes has yet to be released by PUMA. Via Sneaker News.

Puma Clydes Honoring Track Star Tommie Smith

tommiesmith.jpg

Legendary track star Tommie Smith is the inspiration for a duo of Puma Clydes that will be released at the end of summer. I was impressed by both pairs of shoes as I was reading the description offered on High Snobiety. The Clydes above honor Smith’s 1968 gold medal performance in the Mexico City Olympics while the shoes below replicate the runner’s shoes from the medal ceremony stand.

It would be simple enough for Puma to stamp Smith’s winning 200 meter time on the tongues of both shoes. The shoe company went above and beyond in designing these shoes with small accents. The gold Clydes feature replica medals from the 1968 Olympics throughout the shoe. Puma fans will love the gold lining inside of the blue shoes if they decide to purchase both shoes.

I love the way Puma decided to honor Tommie Smith using one of its premier shoes. Fans of the Puma brand will overwhelm fans of the track star but the honor remains strong. I would choose the blue suede Clydes over the gold shoes because they feature subtle touches of gold as well as design touches that would make for good conversation.

Puma Suede 4th of July Firecracker Pack

The Puma Suede 4th of July Firecracker Pack consists of two monotone colorways - Red and Black. But these shoes are all about the details, which include a mock fuse on the tongue and a firecracker image on the heel.

Each shoe features white laces, white outer sole and decorative inner lining. No price details are available yet, but expect these shoes to be dropped in June - plenty of time before the holiday. Via Streething

Puma First Round LE x No Mas - New York Knicks
Puma First Round LE x No Mas - New York Knicks

Puma has teamed up with No Mas once again on the First Round. This limited edition version features the colors of the New York Knicks. Hopefully the Knicks, who are 23-56 this season, will be able to draft (and trade!) well this offseason and get back on track. Either way, their fans will look good in these kicks. These shoes use the colors very well on this mostly white shoe.

There’s no set release date yet, but look for these to run $150 at No Mas in NYC. Via Complex.

Custom Pumas from Stizo Custom Kicks

contriband1.jpg

Stizo Custom Kicks is celebrating the newest release by Contriband with a pair of custom Pumas. This band has been doing well on MySpace and Stizo is showing off its love for hip hop music with these impeccably designed sneakers. The deep green/blue colorway that is painted on these Pumas matches Contriband’s album color perfectly.

The designer showed off his ability to insert fine touches with the fireflies located on both heel tags. Contriband’s name is imprinted in blue running parallel to the outside eyelets on both shoes.

I haven’t heard Contriband yet but I have to imagine that the band is pleased with these Pumas. They are well-constructed and act as an accompaniment to the band’s latest album which has to counter for something in a struggling record industry.

Puma Unlimited Hi & Lo “Limited Edition”

Puma Unlimited Hi & Lo “Limited Edition”

The Puma Unlimited Hi sells for 13,440 Yen at Mita. The Puma Unlimited Lo sells for 11,550 Yen at Mita. The shoes will be released for sale on April 21st.

The Puma Unlimited Hi has a white/black colorway. The white toe box is framed by black reptile leather. The thick red shoe lace is an accent that complements the red streak that runs across the shoe at the side to the back. The side section has a few panels of the same black, reptile leather. The black tongue has accents in red and white for the boxed area associated with the Puma logo. The midsole is white and the outsole is black.

Puma Unlimited Lo comes in 3 colorways. The black colorway has a white shoe lace to complement the silver streak. The shoe’s inner lining is black and coordinates with the black color scheme.

The next picture shows the Lo with the black/white colorway. The accents are light blue. The shoelace, inner lining and border stitching are in this light blue color. The blue is a striking color and makes the shoe look alive.

The last picture shows the Puma Unlimited Lo with a white toe box and black border of leather. The shoe lace is green. On the midsection, the green slash is a different shade and it looks good. The inner lining is the same shade as the shoe lace.

I like the Puma Unlimited Lo black colorway the best of all.

PUMA x Yo! MTV Raps - 3rd Series
PUMA x Yo! MTV Raps - 3rd Series #1

For the third time, PUMA and Yo! MTV Raps have teamed up. In this release, which features three shoes, you can get some old school hip hop flavor mixed with the classic PUMA style. Quantities will be limited so be sure to pick up your pair if you spot them.

They are due out on April 15th at exclusive retailers such as the Harajuku and Osaka flagship stores of XLarge in Japan.

Of the three shoes, the craziest feature a red, white and yellow colorway. The yellow laces and the oversized Yo! MTV Raps logo makes it extremely wild.

If you’d rather have a more subtle shoe, check out the version that features a black and red colorway. This shoe is far from boring as it combines both suede and patent leather.

The third version, which is gray, black, red and white, also has a lot of flavor.

Puma Baskets in Honor of Vaughn Bode

vaughnbode1.jpg

The cartoons of Vaughn Bode delighted readers of National Lampoon and other magazines during the 1970s. His main protagonist was Cheech Wizard who appeared in National Lampoon between 1971 and 1975. Puma has unleashed the Basket model once again in commemoration of a slice of American culture.

I wrote about the Puma Basket celebrating the 1970s Seattle Super Sonics in a recent post. The brand is celebrating Vaughn Bode with a set of Baskets using the cartoonist’s vibrant colors and shapes. The pair shown above feature colorful shoe laces and the word “Bode” in red underneath the familiar Puma symbol.

I have passing familiarity with Bode’s work but I enjoy Puma’s return to the 1970s. The colors are sharp without being garish and Puma did not paste Cheech Wizard all over these Baskets. There is a fine balance struck between the fun contained within Bode’s work and the serious celebration of his overall catalog of drawings.
