Nike Air Max 1 Year Of The Ox

Nike Air Max One is commemorating the new Chinese New Year with this design. In 2009, Chinese New Year falls on January 26. According to their Lunar Year and zodiac calendar, 2009 will be the Year of the Ox. This Nike Air Max 1 Year of the Ox has some special features. Nike has sacrificed their prime advertising locations at the tongue tag and back of the heel tab. The tag has no Nike swoosh and is replaced with some Chinese graphics. The back tab at the heel has a golden ox standing against a background of radiating red rays.

Nike uses inspiration from the Chinese culture. Since red is their traditional color for luck, it is used for the shoe lace and other accents like the inner lining of the shoe.

The toe box is in bright, white color and has perforations. The grey colored strap across the toe box is an accent to highlight the toe box. The midsection and Nike swoosh have contrasting panels of different leathers.

One last detail worth mentioning is the use of a pair of gold colored lace braces for the last set of shoe lacing holes. The brace is in the shape of the figure “8”, which is a lucky number according to Chinese customs. This shoe will be popular for the Chinese all over the world.
