Velcro Panel Custom Dunks

September 4, 2008

A young artist with the handle Crunchy Soups showed off these custom Dunks at the forum linked here. The designer is preparing these Velcro paneled Dunks for a recycled art show later in the year. Crunchy Soups shows that an old pair of Dunks, recycled materials and some ingenuity are the best ingredients for custom sneakers.

The designer used recycled materials for each section including plaid, distressed red leather and pink fabric with the word “San Fran” in black lettering. She notes in her post that these shoes will have Velcro panels to help the wearer add colorful cloth and other elements with ease.

While the idea of sticking fabric on a Velcro shoe may not sound appealing, Crunchy Soup is exposing the limitations of sneaker design. She admits that her custom Dunks are incomplete but they already show a new frontier for custom artists. This frontier allows artists and their customers the chance to figure out new designs without worrying about messy paint and expensive fabrics.
