Sneakers by Sean customized these old Air Force Ones for a friend recently. The Sunrise Fade Air Force Ones allowed the designer to play around with fading colors for the first time while creating a nice custom. These sneakers were found on the Sneakers by Sean Customsnkr.com blog linked here.

The first layer of paint is a deep red with a black horizon line set along the heel. This horizon line is peppered with small trees to add some ambiance to the coming dawn. The main event on the Sunrise Fade is a beautiful yellow sun shining its light up from the outsole to the eyelets.

Sneakers by Sean did a great job creating radiant beams of light set against the black middle panel. The red background surrounding the toe box and heel is a result of the sun’s newborn light. Sneakers by Sean used the colors and themes of the American Southwest when customizing these Air Force Ones. The Southwestern AF1s are framed in a red/brown/white colorway that is subdued to allow silhouetted shapes to stand out. The designers added a wolf, moon and cactus shrouded in shadows to simulate a desert scene. While many people may recognize these features from the Phoenix Coyotes sweater, these themes have resonated among the Native Americans of the Southwest for centuries.

The white/black sun on the toe box completes the Southwestern theme. Sneakers by Sean was able to create a compelling shoe with basic colors, shadows and some detailed work on the toe box. These sneakers vaulted right to the top of my list of favorite Sneakers by Sean shoes.

I have written quite a bit about Sneakers by Sean lately but I think I found his best pair of customs yet. While I am not a big fan of Shaqs (the designer didn’t identify these shoes but they look a lot like some of his other Shaq customs), he was able to turn a substandard shoe into a piece of art. Sneakers by Sean took the Zoo York theme used by skateboarders and graffiti artists since the 1970s to a whole new level. His Zoo York customs feature a graffiti representation of the New York City skyline painted in black and white. The twilight landscape that the designer used was based on a Zoo York hat seen in both pictures.

These Zoo York customs may not be flashy but they get to the point. Sneakers by Sean is celebrating one of the busiest cities in the world in a state of slumber with a night sky overhead. The quiet beauty of the Zoo York skyline is recreated accurately by Sneakers by Sean. You can say what you want about the choice of shoes but it is difficult to say that the designer is bringing anything but his best with these shoes.

The aftermath of The Dark Knight’s success has allowed a flurry of custom sneakers based on Batman, The Joker and Gotham City to reach the Internet. Sneakers by Sean took a more conceptual approach to the new Batman movie on this pair of custom Shaqs. These pictures were taken from the designer’s Customsnkr.com blog linked here.

While other designers took literal approaches to the images in the The Dark Knight, Sneakers by Sean took a much different approach to these Shaqs. The image of a black bat is placed on a golden toe box to show the signal sent into the night sky when Batman is needed. The back heel features a cloud of flying bats that symbolize the swift justice given out by Batman. Sneakers by Sean’s black/gold colorway is evocative of the crime fighter’s suit featuring a yellow utility belt.

I am a big fan of any sneaker that is well done while celebrating Batman. Sneakers by Sean took a more symbolic approach to the comic book hero than other designers but it is executed perfectly.

Sneakers by Sean has produced some great tributes to New York City in recent months including a pair of New York Yankees Dunks I highlighted earlier this week. He also produced a pair of custom Shaqs in honor of Eli Manning, Michael Strahan and the rest of the New York Giants. These special Shaqs were found at the Customsnkr.com post linked here.

The shoes start out with a basic red/blue colorway to represent the Giants color scheme. Sneakers by Sean added the NY logo found on the team’s helmets on the toe boxes as well as middle panels. The designer also painted “XLII” on the heel to represent the numerals for last year’s Super Bowl.

While I am a Packers fan and I was disappointed in their loss to the Giants in the NFC Championship, I can get behind the New York Giants Shaqs. The team was a Cinderella story as the playoffs started and the simple touches on these Shaqs are appropriate for Tom Coughlin’s hard-nosed team.

My love of Cartoon Network’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force has found voice in a pair of custom sneakers from Sneakers by Sean. The designer created custom Air Force Ones to celebrate the adventures of Frylock, Meatwad, Master Shake and Carl. I found these photos on Sneakers by Sean’s Customsnkr.com blog linked here.

The designer did a great job sprinkling the show’s main and background characters throughout the shoe. The left toe box features the show’s trio who spend each episode breaking stuff, getting into trouble and trying to earn some money. The right toe box features the gang’s neighbor Carl, an angry guy who tries to avoid the food-based trio as much as possible.

The shoe would have been incomplete without Oglethorpe and the Mooninites. Sneakers by Sean added Oglethorpe, an orange alien blob, on the outside of the left shoe. Ignignokt and Err are painted on the heels to keep the show’s agitators separate from the Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I am a big fan of the show and these shoes live up to my expectations.

Sneakers by Sean released a new pair of Air Force Ones recently that should catch the eyes of custom sneaker fans. These Air Force Ones are dubbed the Neon Bolt due to the shoe’s electric aesthetic. The designer’s approach to the Neon Bolts shows other artists that an active editorial eye is needed for a great pair of customs.

The Neon Bolts could have easily fallen victim to overdesign in the wrong hands. It is easy to imagine an alternate Neon Bolt with brighter background colors and excessive lightning cluttering the shoe’s open spaces.

Sneakers by Sean kept it simple with a neon green bolt running behind the Nike swoosh and across the toe box on a continuous path. The black background is the only way for the designer to make the neon bolt stand apart from the shoe.
